Introduction

There are many, time consuming activities a site owner must do to increase web traffic to their site.Expect to invest years of your time working at your site or blog to do things that will increase traffic. As with most things, rarely is the easy way going to be the path to riches.Hard work and commitment to your cause is what brings success.I don’t intend to repeat the advice of what others have stated over and over again on how to increase traffic, I do intend to share some of the specific details, tools and strategy that has worked for me so far.I am constantly adapting and changing to hopefully keep up with a dynamic internet world.

Fish'n Life & Tips for Freshwater Anglers

Strategy that is working for me

My strategy is based on that I have full time job and expect to work until I’m old and dying. That’s reality for most so why would that be any different for me, especially after these long drown out years of this recession/depression.I have always wanted to figure out how to get web site traffic and have failed on several earlier attempts.I believed I failed because I was desperate to gain web site traffic and I was doing everything and anything that I would think would drive web site traffic with the obvious intent to make money. So in essence, my short term goal was to do whatever possible by picking the hottest keywords with the highest cost per click (cpc) rates and quickly gain visibility amount the millions and millions of web surfers who are anxious to click on ads. After those failures, I took a break for couple of years and focused on things that would get me money now, such as employment even if that means swapping time for money.

I revised my short strategy and success is being seen. This leads to the first lesson that I’m sure you have elsewhere.

Find a niche market that you are passionate about.

Take the time to really figure out what you are passionate about before embarking on your quest to get web site traffic.I focus on website traffic as you need a high volume of visitors to your site to accomplish whatever your specific goal is in regards to selling product, providing services or information. You need to increase web site traffic and that is the foundation of your strategy to making money someday.Niche market is a specific interest within the population and it takes more than just thinking, “oh, if I just write about health insurance and then I will get bunch of traffic to my website”.The niche market you decide on needs to be something you can write quality content over and over again. You need to be a subject matter expert in it or willing to become a subject matter expert on it if you are going to do anything successful with it.My interest is more than just fishing; I am an avid freshwater angler who more often than not, fish’s from the shoreline. My interest which corresponds very well to a growing market is freshwater fishing.I fish regularly and enjoy figuring out how to catch a variety of fish in changing conditions so that is what I focus on.Check out my site.

So, lesson number One is to figure out what your interests are and then do some research to see what people are looking for and then make your decision.A couple of research methods you can do is to use SEO tools and sites to do specific keyword searches and see the volume of traffic those subjects get.

Try out the following two sites:

1. Google AdWords Keyword tool : This is intended for those who are submitting ads but the information works both ways.

2. KeywordSpy : is simply AMAZING. You can sign up for a free trial which is I think is an unlimited free trial except you don’t get the entire advance, further in-depth analysis they provide. But the amount of valuable information you get in the free trial version is unbelievable! In addition, they have a very generous affiliate program which is free to join with a high payout percent and rate.If you are going to use it, you will want to be an affiliate since you will quickly see the potential to make money from it.

Post regularly and with quality, unique content

I wish this was all I would have to say about it but it can’t be emphasized enough. The more you post the better.I read this advice when I started and I had kinda taken it to heart knowing that it made sense but posting 3 to 5 times a week just seemed a stretch.Well, it made a huge difference when I started to actually follow that advice. Look at it this way, more posts equal more keywords and more topics being searched for.Posting very frequently is crucial to increase web traffic and it shouldn’t be taken likely. And this leads us into the last bit of advice for this round: keyword selection.

Keyword Selection

Keywords serve two huge purposes within a post and someone wanting to increase web traffic should spend as much time researching which keywords to use as figuring out what the next article is going to be about.Once you have a topic to discuss, spend the time to identify the strongest keywords for that topic that brings in both volume and cost per click. Keywords should be some word or set of words that are highly searched for and a simply misspelling or correct spelling some cases makes the difference between having a keyword that is searched 500 times or 500,000 times.Pick the keywords that are highly searched. The second purpose of keywords is how they are used by Google AdSense or other advertising online programs. These programs such as Google AdSense are scanning the articles content and identifying keywords that they use to send related ads to.This is where the cost per click program kicks in for you as that you want the highest rated cost per click keywords being scanned by Google AdSense and others and for them to send those types of ads your way with the hopes of someone clicking on them. When I first started out, I knew about the importance of keywords but could really find a good, free place to go to do this type of research. My AdSense clicks were bringing in pennies but once I began using KeywordSPY, the multiple dollar ads started coming my way and making a difference in my AdSense account. It was encouraging.

Summary

It takes time to build a successful online presence that brings in enough money to actually mean something to you.Focus on web site traffic and sharing your passion in written and picture content and the rest will fall in place. My strategy is to enjoy writing about fishing and figuring out other methods to increase web site traffic. The metric that means something to me is the hit count numbers from analytics not how many clicks or how much money that I have received. The cost per click amount is another means in which I measure how well I’m identifying keywords to use but that is it.I believe if I continue to do the right things by delivering quality content that people want to read about and you are able to get it in front of them, the money will come.
